Become a Volunteer

Tour of PA riders on the ridgeGeared Up to Volunteer?  We always have room for helping hands and smiling faces!   Whether you're a die-hard cycling fan or just a fan of the outdoors, you are welcome to join us for one, two, or all three races.  Show off your community pride and help us host a safe and memorable Race Day for everyone!

As plans begin for 2009, we are compiling lists of those who wish to volunteer. Sign up now and we will keep you posted on the opportunities.

Volunteer Positions

Course Marshal Course Marshals are our most prized and valued volunteers, as they assist us in ensuring the safety of the event.  As a Course Marshal, you will be positioned on the Race Course at a designated area and will be responsible for keeping the Course clear of spectators.  We will provide you with the appropriate training, equipment, uniform, and refreshments for the day, in support of this critical assignment.   Course Marshal Notes:  This position involves standing and/or walking outdoors for more than three hours, and may involve moderate lifting/moving of boxes and/or supplies. Minimum age requirement – 16 (Guardian consent required for minors)

Traveling Marshal:

If Course Marshals are our most valued volunteers, then our Traveling Marshals are priceless! Traveling Marshals perform the same duties as Course Marshals – with the added benefit of traveling across the State with the Race. Committing to the full six days of Racing, Traveling Marshals will drive to each Start and Finish location and will lead local Course Marshals in their duties.

Traveling Marshal Notes: Transportation to and from each City is provided, in addition to your lodging and Race meals. This position also requires the ability to supervise other volunteers and directing them to their local assignments. Traveling Marshals also work long, travel days, with irregular meal schedules, so good physical conditioning (and a road-warrior attitude!) is important.

Minimum age- 18

Stage Crew

This is really where a set of helping hands comes in!  If you're in excellent physical condition, you don't mind moving and lifting boxes, and you're willing to assist our construction team, we have the perfect volunteer position for you. Join our stage crew and be a part of the “behind-the-scene” action that makes the Course come alive. Stage Crew Notes:  This position involves walking/lifting/moving heavy boxes, materials, and/or equipment outdoors for more than three hours. Minimum age - 18

Hospitality

Assist event staff in checking credentials at access gates for the exclusive VIP tents.

Hospitality Notes:   This position involves standing and/or walking at a dedicated location for more than three hours, and requires respectful, helpful and polite interaction with VIP guests. Minimum age - 21

Marketing and Public Relations A great opportunity for marketing and public relations students, professionals or enthusiasts.  Volunteering for the marketing communications teams gives you first-hand experience in race-day press rooms, exposure to an international press corps and experience with our Race Communications experts. Are you available to assist with promotion and public relations functions prior to races?  If so, we have a limited number of volunteer “internship” positions available as well. If you have website skills and wish to help with website maintenance or reporting, please volunteer for the marketing and public relations position. Marketing and Public Relations Notes:  This position involves standing and/or walking outdoors for more than three hours, and may involve moderate lifting/moving of boxes and/or supplies. Minimum age – 18

Foreign Language Interpreter

If you can speak another language, you may have the chance to volunteer as a Team Interpreter for one of our international Race teams.  You don't need to be an expert – just feel comfortable in conversation and in helping our foreign guests feel welcome during Race Week.  We are particularly interested in those who can speak French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Minimum age – 21

Security

Race Day Security is provided by City Police, but there are areas along the Course where Race Organizers can use your help. Under the direction of our private security team, volunteers will assist in protecting race equipment, checking credentials at access gates, and monitoring restricted access areas.

Security Notes:  This position involves standing and/or walking outdoors for more than three hours.

Minimum age - 21

Driver Support

The Race caravan is comprised of automobile drivers and motorcycle riders who need your support.  Help the Drivers prepare vehicles for Race Day, manage vehicle inventory, and coordinate vehicle transports. Driver Support Notes:  This position involves standing and/or walking outdoors for more than three hours, and may involve the need to drive a vehicle.  A valid driver's license and proof of insurance is required. Minimum age - 25

** SPECIAL NOTES:

** While every attempt will be made to accommodate your fist choice, please note that you will be assigned to the area in which you are most needed.

** While supplies last, t-shirts will be provided.  The shirt sizes are limited and we will do the best we can to accommodate your preference.
